This policy explains what happens when you visit unlockpdf free or use one of its browser-based PDF tools.
Our short version
unlockpdf free is designed so that your PDF and the password you provide are processed locally in your browser. We do not operate a document-upload endpoint for the PDF tools, and we do not receive or store the PDF bytes or passwords used in your browser session. Separately, the website itself uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage and Google AdSense to display ads, both of which are described below.
Information processed in your browser
When you select a file, browser code reads that file from your device. Depending on the method you choose, the browser renders the pages or processes the PDF structure locally and creates a new file for download. The original file remains on your device, and closing the page ends the working session held by that tab.
Passwords are used only in memory while the selected tool is processing your file. Do not enter a password on a device or browser session you do not trust.
Website and hosting information
The website is served as static HTML, CSS, JavaScript, fonts, and browser libraries. Like most websites, the hosting or delivery provider may receive technical request information needed to deliver pages, detect abuse, and maintain reliability. This can include an IP address, browser details, requested URL, time, and basic error information. That infrastructure data is handled according to the provider's own privacy terms.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics (measurement ID G-WYM6JG81W3) to understand how the website is used in aggregate — for example, which pages are visited and how visitors reach the site. Google Analytics sets cookies and may collect information such as a truncated IP address, device and browser details, and page-interaction events. We use this data to improve the website's content and usability. We do not use the contents of your documents for analytics. Google's handling of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
This website displays ads served by Google AdSense (publisher ID ca-pub-5561904141888848). To provide these ads, Google and its third-party vendors may use cookies and similar technologies. In particular:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You may also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
Ads are not shown on error pages, and no advertising code has access to the contents of documents you process, because that processing happens locally in your browser.
Your cookie choices
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can limit personalized advertising using the opt-out links above. Blocking cookies may affect analytics and the relevance of ads, but it does not affect the browser-based PDF tools, which do not depend on cookies.
Third-party resources
The site loads fonts from Google Fonts, analytics from Google Analytics, and ads from Google AdSense. A browser request to an externally hosted resource can expose technical request information (such as an IP address and browser details) to that provider. The PDF libraries used by the tools run in your browser; they are not an external service receiving your document.
Links to other websites
Pages on unlockpdf free may link to external websites or resources. We do not control their content or privacy practices. Review the privacy policy of any external site before sharing information with it.
Your choices and questions
You can choose not to select a file, close the tool, or clear your browser's downloaded files and site data. If you have a privacy question or believe the site has handled information unexpectedly, please contact us.
Policy changes
We may update this policy when the website or its processing practices change. The date at the top of this page indicates when the current version was last reviewed.
