unlockpdf free provides focused browser tools for common PDF tasks, starting with unlocking and protecting PDF files. The interface is intentionally simple: choose a document, provide the information required to process it, and download the result.
Private by architecture
The site is delivered as a multi-page Astro application, while PDF processing runs in your browser using client-side JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your selected PDF and any password you enter are held in the current browser session instead of being uploaded to a document-processing backend.
Clear about trade-offs
Different PDF workflows preserve different features. The image-based method is the default because it is broadly compatible and preserves the visible appearance of pages. The direct method is available when preserving text, forms, bookmarks, annotations, and metadata matters more. The tool explains these choices before you process a file.
Who it is for
The service is intended for people working with PDFs they own or are authorized to access: personal records, applications, invoices, contracts, school documents, and similar files. It is not a password-recovery or encryption-cracking service.
